Colossal Supports James Beard Foundation Event in Arizona
Colossal representatives attend workshop in preparation for Favorite Chef Competition
Arizona has a bustling food culture filled with both award-winning and up-and-coming chefs of every background. While the Southwest is known and loved for its traditional and modern Mexican dishes, Arizona restaurants offer a variety of cuisine from around the world. No matter if you’re in the mood for a cowboy steak, a wild-caught Alaskan salmon dish, or a green chile and carne asada cheese crisp, the Phoenix and Tucson areas are sure to provide.
With this vibrant food scene, it’s no wonder the James Beard Foundation recently launched a series of impact workshops starting in Phoenix. Building Your Culinary Workplace Culture: Values-Based Leadership kicked off the campaign and was led by the James Beard Foundation’s vice president of programs, Dr. Anne McBride. At the workshop, she touched on how important it is for restaurant leadership to create a company culture that aligns with its deeper values.
“There are several steps to help develop values-based leadership skills at all levels of the restaurant industry. First, identify your values (the principles that guide your business). Communicate them to your team (create a common sense of purpose). Build trust with the team (be consistent, transparent, and follow through with commitments). Hold yourself and your team accountable. Lead by example. Recognize and celebrate those who follow your values. And constantly self-assess to be sure you are following your own values and living your own truth,” said McBride.
