Partner Spotlight: Oceana | The Work Doesn’t Stop After Earth Day
Earth Day is a reminder that small actions can lead to big change. It's a moment to pause, reflect, and ask ourselves how we can take better care of the planet we all share. And while there's no shortage of environmental issues to tackle, one thing we can all start with is simple: using less plastic.
At Colossal, we’re proud to partner with organizations like Oceana that are working to protect our oceans and reduce plastic pollution. One area they’re focused on right now is plastic foam — the kind used in disposable cups, food containers, and packing materials. It’s lightweight, breaks apart easily, and doesn’t biodegrade, making it one of the most harmful types of plastic for marine life and ecosystems.

Millions of tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year. Sea turtles, fish, seabirds, and other wildlife often mistake plastic for food, leading to serious health issues and even death. But it’s not just animals that are affected — microplastics have been found in our water, our food, and even in our bodies.
The good news? We can make better choices.
Cutting back on plastic doesn’t require a major lifestyle change. It can start with:
Bringing your own reusable bags, bottles, and containers
Skipping plastic straws and utensils when you don’t need them
Supporting businesses that offer sustainable packaging
Choosing products made with recycled or compostable materials
Reducing plastic pollution takes more than just personal choices — it also means supporting policies that make a bigger impact. Local bans on plastic foam have already helped cut down waste in rivers, harbors, and on beaches.
Now, national legislation like the Farewell to Foam Act aims to take that progress even further by phasing out single-use foam products across the country. By advocating for legislation like this, we can help drive long-term change that benefits our environment, our health, and future generations.
Earth Day reminds us that caring for the planet doesn't require perfection — it starts with intentional, everyday choices. When we make those choices together, we help build a future that’s better for both people and the planet.
